As the founding members of the Wrath of the Lich King team

World of Warcraft recently announced the Wrath of the Lich King expansion coming to the Classic servers WOTLK Classic Gold. The Wrath of the Lich King took players onto the frozen planet of Northrend and they faced on against the Lich King and Scourge's undead on the highest point of the planet. The expansion was among the most popular in WoW history and the announcement of the brand-new Dragonflight expansion caused almost the same amount of excitement.

Game Rant participated in a group interview with World of Warcraft Classic lead software engineer Brian Birmingham and principal system designer Kris Zierhut about Wrath of the Lich King Classic's grand return.

As the founding members of the Wrath of the Lich King team, Birmingham and Zierhut are as enthusiastic about the progress of World of Warcraft as they are knowledgeable. The two developers discussed the most challenging parts of resurrecting Wrath of the Lich King, and talked about the future of World of Warcraft Classic.

One of the most difficult challenges that has been faced by Wrath of the Lich King Classic comes from its coding. Consolidating the information from Classic, Wrath of the Lich King and the retail version of World of Warcraft into a one-of-a-kind experience is an arduous project. According to Birmingham the process involves importing the codes that is from Vanilla World of Warcraft, Burning Crusade, and Wrath of the Lich King and connecting it with previous and present Classic and Retail World of Warcraft versions.

"We're having to deal with six different versions and are trying to make sure the changes made in one format are recorded in the right place in the version we'll release later buy WOTLK Classic Gold. It's a challenge that we're tackling by making notes of the changes as well as contemplating which version would make an ideal sense to utilize."
